General Rules and Regulations for Riding on LKTA Trails

LKTA Trails are Horse Trails Only  and for LKTA MEMBERS and Guests.

  1. Do not take dogs on the trail.

  2. NO SMOKING while on the trails.

  3. If a landowner approaches you while you are riding, be courteous. If he is disturbed about something, assure him that the LKTA will look into it. Report same to the Public Relations Committee.

  4. Do not leave the marked path. Permission is given only for trails marked with LKTA markers.

  5. Keep to the extreme edge of all lawns and planted or plowed fields. "Extreme edge" means single file and as far off the field as a horse can move. This is one of the most important rules to follow.

  6. If you see or cause damage to property, try to fix it (at least temporarily). Tell the landowner or an officer of the LKTA as soon as you get home.

  7. Do not litter!

  8. Leaders should use a raised arm signal to tell riders behind to stop or change to a slower gait.

  9. Move slowly when riding near residences or passing by barnyards and pastures holding livestock.

Ground conditions in the spring may require riders to stay off certain areas of the trail. Do not cause damage to lawns or ground before and after jumps.

All LKTA trails are closed during deer hunting season. (First Monday after Nov. 15 to first Tuesday after Dec. 7).

Permission has been granted to LKTA members for trail clearing and horseback riding only - not for skiing, trail bikes, snowmobiles or other.

Keep to the shoulder of public highways, and always ride with the traffic.*

* Riding in the same direction as the traffic is a New York State Law.
